I am honored to be walking with your child as they prepare for the Sacrament of Confirmation.
I have been a parishioner here at St. Mary’s since 2001. My husband Mike and I have been married for 20 years and we have been blessed with 2 girls, Stephanie and Michelle. Lake in the Hills has been our home since 1996.
I have been working here at St. Mary’s for 7 years now. When I was first hired, I was helping with both the Religious Education Program and the Youth Ministry Program. With the growth of our parish, I was reassigned solely to the Youth Ministry Office. I love working with the young people and feel that passing on our faith is the key to the continued growth of the Church. I have taken many mission trips with our youth to serve the poor and seeing them grow as young disciples is very rewarding. Along with many of the youth events, I was very involved in the Confirmation Program.
As the Director of Confirmation Ministry, my goal has been to open up experiences for the young people to grow more deeply in their relationship with Christ and with the faith community here at St. Mary’s. With the new curriculum, my hope is that the students will connect to the issues and teachings that we put in front of them on a more personal level. They will learn how to apply these teachings to their lives and be able to internalize the Church’s traditions. The more interactive style of teaching will also be an asset to keeping the focus on the lesson at hand.
I feel extremely blessed to be able to take part in this Confirmation process with your child. Please feel free to contact me throughout the year with any questions or concerns. May God’s love and peace be with everyone in your family.
Peace & Blessings,
Director of Confirmation Ministry

Many volunteers are needed to make this program run smoothly. Small group leaders in the Confirmation program do not need to design lessons you simply need to facilitate a short conversation with 10 – 12 teens and take attendance for those teens. If you can share your time and talent in some way please fill out a volunteer form.- vol form 2013-14
Confirmation I Curriculum
The curriculum is based on the diocesan guidelines for Confirmation, Lifeteen’s One Eight Program and Fr. McBride’s Teen Catechism. The students will all receive a copy of the book, a Bible and a folder at the beginning of the year. Each student will be responsible for bringing those materials to every class.
Fr. McBride’s Teen Catechism provides a good overview of Church teaching. As the author states in the introduction, the book “assumes that young people are only at the beginning of a lifelong faith journey, that they have many stages of faith growth ahead of them and that this is but one step in that enriching process.”
If a student misses a class, Fr. McBride’s Teen Catechism will be used to complete the make-up work. Students will be assigned a chapter that corresponds to the week’s teaching that they missed. All classes are mandatory and make-up work will be handed out in small group the session they return. Make-up work is due the next session we have class. If your student’s book or Bible is lost, there will be a $10 replacement fee for each book.
Chastity and Safe Environment Program
The Charter for the Protection of Children and Young People, adopted by the United States Conference of Catholic bishops in 2002, requires parishes to provide formation for children in the areas of safety and the integrity of their persons. To assist our families with this important task, we have developed the “Diocese of Rockford Formation in Christian Chastity and Safe Environment Program,” using as a principal source The Catechism of the Catholic Church. Our philosophy is to involve parents directly in the formation of their children. In addition to classroom presentations for students in Confirmation Prep I on the key safety issues, parents are asked to use the materials available on the Rockford Diocese Catholic Education Office website to help guide their own discussions with their children at home. Midway down the page on the right side under New Programs in the orange balloon you will find the Diocese of Rockford Child Safety Programs. This will take you to the entire program by grade level for classroom and parent lesson plans for both Formation in Christian Chastity and Safe Environment.
There are classroom lesson plans in both the Formation in Christian Chastity and the Safe Environment aspects of the program. Through lesson plans to be taught in our Confirmation program, children and young people learn their role in protecting themselves and develop skills to accomplish that task. The lesson plans are age-appropriate for each level at which they are taught.
The Diocesan Formation in Christian Chastity and Safe Environment Program is mandatory for all Parish Religious Education Programs in the Rockford Diocese.
In the event that you do not want your child to participate in these lessons, parents will need to fill out and return the “Opt Out” form before the date the first classes are presented. Parents will be asked to not send their child to class the day of the presentations.
