I’d like to thank each of you for supporting your child as they begin the next step in their faith journey.
I have been a parishioner here at St. Mary’s since 2001. My husband Mike and I have been married for 20 years and we have been blessed with 2 girls, Stephanie and Michelle. Lake in the Hills has been our home since 1996.
I have been working here at St. Mary’s for 7 years now. When I was first hired I was helping with both the Religious Education Program and the Youth Ministry Program. With the growth of our parish I was reassigned solely to the Youth Ministry Office. I love working with the young people and feel that passing on our faith is the key to the continued growth of the Church. I have taken many mission trips with our youth to serve the poor and seeing them grow as young disciples is very rewarding. Along with many of the youth events I was very involved in the Confirmation Program.
As the Director of Confirmation Ministry, my goal has been to open up experiences for the young people to grow more deeply in their relationship with Christ and with the faith community here at St. Mary’s.
In the Confirmation process we will learn through fun and interactive ways that there are many different ways to pray, worship and serve Christ. We will also help your student understand that with Jesus nothing is impossible to conquer (LK 18:27).
We will take this journey together so if along the way I can do anything to make the journey any easier for you or your child please let me know. May God’s abundant blessings be upon your entire family.
Peace & Blessings,
Director of Confirmation Ministry

Many volunteers are needed to make this program run smoothly. Small group leaders in the Confirmation program do not need to design lessons you simply need to facilitate a short conversation with 10 – 12 teens and take attendance for those teens. If you can share your time and talent in some way please fill out a volunteer form.- vol form 2013-14
Sponsors are an important component of the Confirmation process. A sponsor is an individual who has been and will continue to be a strong role model in the Catholic faith. A sponsor is a person who joins the candidate on his or her faith journey. A sponsor needs to be someone you are comfortable talking with and someone you can ask questions about the faith. The purpose of the relationship between you and your sponsor is to lead you to a deeper relationship with Jesus. The faith sharing that occurs between the candidates and sponsors enables you to accept the Holy Spirit more fully.
Qualifications for being a Sponsor:
- Chosen by the Candidate
- Be baptized and have received the Sacrament of Confirmation in the Catholic Church
- Be a practicing Catholic
- Must be 16 years of age or older
- May not be the Candidate’s parent
Responsibilities of a Sponsor:
- Be a Catholic Christian witness in both words and deeds
- Challenge the Candidate’s words and actions when they are contradictory of Catholic Christian values.
- Offer support to the candidate during and after Confirmation process.
In both the Old and New Testaments, whenever God had a new mission for a person, that person received a new name, e.g. Jacob/Israel, Simon/Peter. Once confirmed God gives you a new mission as an adult in the Catholic Church.
When choosing a saint’s name, the saint should be someone you admire and someone you strive to be like. You will be asked to fill out an information sheet about the saint you chose which will require you do some research.
Requirements for Confirmation name:
- Must be a Catholic Saint’s name or a well known good role model from the Old Testament.
- A candidate may choose to keep his/her baptismal name if the baptismal name is a Saint’s name.
The following websites might be of help in your search; there are also books about saints available in the Confirmation Ministry Office.
I have called you by name; you are mine! –Isaiah 43:1
The Confirmation retreat is an essential part of the Confirmation program. All students are required to attend one Confirmation retreat to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a faith environment for an entire weekend.
The students will have a choice between two retreat dates.
The theme of the retreat is “Gifts and Fruits of the Spirit”. The students will hear talks by young adults and confirmed high school students about the different gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit and how those gifts and fruits have impacted their own lives and can impact the lives of the teens. Another component of the retreat will be activities and skits that teach the students interactively about their faith. Celebration of the Sacraments will be part of each day.
The retreat is a place where students can spend time growing and learning their faith by relating to others, interactively learning, and having a good time.
Please fill out the retreat form with your preferred retreat date no later than September 25. The retreat center has a maximum capacity. This means that once this limit has been reached all other students will have to attend one of the other retreats. Reservations are on a first come – first served basis.
Jesus taught us that it was very important to serve others and help those who are in need. Jesus gave us this example to follow.
Each student will be asked to sign up for one of the Confirmation service projects. The Confirmation service projects will also discuss the connection of our faith to the service which we provide.
Confirmation small group leaders and/or adult volunteers and the Director of the Confirmation Ministry will be chaperoning the service projects. High school peer ministers may also be assisting with these projects.
Space is limited on all service projects, and spaces will be given on a first come – first served basis. Please turn in the Service Project form at least 3 weeks prior to the project unless another RSVP date is listed.
Do not wait until the last minute to sign up for your service project!
