Discipleship Team

St. Mary’s Discipleship Team is an opportunity for young men and women who are committed to their faith to grow by journeying with one another in prayer and relationship and helping other teens to come into a deeper relationship with God. This is different than weekly lifenights because it’s the next step – when you are coming to dteam you are saying that you’re ready to go even deeper than you ever have before.

The main focus of Dteam will be to meet for 4-6 weeks at a time to plan for upcoming retreats, lock-ins, and more. The idea will be simple: if you’re committed, actively involved in your faith and our ministry, and want to help by evangelizing younger teens, come to Discipleship Team. If you can make it to formation leading up to a retreat, than you can come, grow in your discipleship, and help us plan for the event. Each gathering will be a time of prayer, formation, and planning. In order to be a part of the team for our retreats / lock-ins, you’ll need to make it to at least more than half of the formation meetings leading up to the event.

In order to be effective witnesses of the Gospel, it is important that the Discipleship Team members are committed to daily personal prayer. Dteam members will commit themselves to personal prayer and challenge one another to remain committed to that daily prayer always. We can’t give what we don’t have, and so a commitment to our own relationship with the Lord is vital if we are going to spread His love to other people.

Evangelization means to spread the Good News, and members of dteam are called to do that constantly. Through efforts here at the parish as well as their daily relationships with those around them, team members will commit themselves to sharing Jesus with those they meet. The mission of our youth ministry is to proclaim the life-changing love of God in a way which is accessible and helps lead young people to a deep, lasting relationship with the Person of Jesus Christ and His Church, and the efforts of our discipleship team should always serve to further that effort.

Members of the Discipleship Team are called to constantly challenge themselves to learn more about their faith and grow deeper in their relationship with Christ. This means a commitment to our Discipleship Team meetings, Life Nights, to personal faith, and to taking the challenge to grow in the faith on their own.

The next big event we’ll be planning is the Jr. High Spring Retreat March 9-11! This retreat is at Bishop Lane, and we’ll need lots of help from Dteam. The meetings to plan this (you need to attend at least 3 of the 4!) are:

  • February 8
  • February 15
  • February 22
  • March 1

If you want to help out with this retreat, please be sure you are at at least three of those four meetings. As usual, Dteam will be from 6-7:30pm!

If you’re interested in helping out with summer camp this summer for the 6th, 7th, and 8th Grade students, applications are available now! Head to stmaryhuntley.org/campcounselor to learn more and get an application!

One of the best and most common ways our dteam are able to help with our ministry is an EDGE teen helper! In this role, you have the chance to come on Mondays and be a part of a small group each week, journeying with a core team adult and their group of Jr. High Students as they grow in their faith and encounter the Lord each week! EDGE happens in two sessions, 5-6:15pm and 6:45-8pm; if you want to see the full schedule, you can click here. If you are interested in helping in EDGE, you can click here to let us know – it’s not too late to get signed up!
